Escaping the early summer heat

May is here and so is the heat. We have already had a full week of 90-100 degree weather. From the look on Beck's face you wouldn't know it was so hot. He loves being outdoors.

While Kipp studies hard and is away at school Beck and I have a lot of time to play, but with the weather betting warmer our play has changed to involve water and playing on the grass before the heat kills it.
I asked him to turn down his music, and this is the face I got... 'do you want a knuckle sandwich'
I just can't get enough of his baby blues. It was a hot day so his little face matched his shirt. We didn't stay outside to long.

Taking activities  back inside I was trying to teach Beck soccer. It's never to early to start them on a sport, right? He just gave me a confused look, maybe we will try again when he is 9months.
He rather dance around in his bouncer if he has to be inside, rather than playing soccer.
I was trying to be a creative parent, so I dyed some spaghetti green (to make it easier to see) and let Beck work on his fine motor skills and experience a new texture. He took to it okay, but it wasn't his favorite, so I got to eat green spaghetti for lunch that day.

Kipp is always very busy at school. But every so often we are able to take a weekend to do something fun. This last weekend was one of those times. Our friends had access to a cabin (really a house) up at Panaguich Lake in Utah and invited us to come along for a quick weekend of fun. It was so nice to drive 4 hours and be in the Dixie National Forest and breathe in that cold, fresh mountain air. Here is a cute little picture of a meadow in the area.

It was beautiful!  Beck had a lot of fun. Saturday morning we drove around to see what the area held. We stopped at the area's general store. Beck found himself learning how to ride a horse.

Saturday the weather was not the best. It was very windy as the southern part of Utah had a wind advisory. Despite the wind we still enjoyed a little outdoor fun. Kipp wanted to test the temperature of the lake, as you can see the air was cold was also enough to have him bundled up.

After our trip to the lake we got our gear on and went for a trail ride in a RZR (a offroad vehicle). We got Beck bundled up and even found him some goggles to keep the wind and any dirt out of his cute little baby-blues.

We hit a few bumps that scared him a little. By the end of the trail ride he was asleep and did not care about any bumps.

After baby's first trail ride we thought it would be good to just sit back and enjoy the cabin. Beck loved the stairs and all the wood. He had so many new things to look at he was constantly entertained. All in all we have enjoyed our time as a family and can't wait until Kipp is no longer in school (2years from now) so we can have more fun and adventures together.

Spring Break

Kipp has helped me make a few friends through his classmates and their wives. Maddy and I have been spending some time together, because like myself she enjoys country music, and like myself she married a man who doesn't. Together we decided to leave the boys at home to watch Beck and we went to a Scotty McCreery concert (he won american idol a few years back). It was really fun! It was a beautiful night int he outdoor amphitheater.

Kipp finally got a break from school so we headed out on a few adventures while the weather is still bearable.

Our first adventure was to Red Rock National Conservatory. There we hiked a trail called Calico Tanks. This was Beck's first hike, and first time in the big backpack... He was not a fan, he fussed, yet everyone we passed all couldn't help but say how cute he was, so it must have not been as loud and annoying as we thought he was.

In the middle of the hike, there was this little pod, and the wind came though to cool us off. It was very nice.

Over all it was a very pretty hike, we didn't get a picture of the end look out, but it was amazing, you saw the desert and then the entire Las Vegas skyline, it was really pretty.
The next day we joined with Kipp's classmate Kyle and his wife Maddy and went exploring the Valley of Fire.

It was a lot of fun spending some time outside and getting some fresh air away from the city. Beck liked being in his little carrier better than the big backpack from the day before. Kipp and I both liked the bigger backback as he is a heavy baby to wear in the front.

The rest of spring break we relaxed and just had some quality family time. Kipp and I even made it to the Temple.
